2009 San Jose Sharks Alumni Cup
Police/ Fire Ice Hockey Tournament

Every year in January, the San Jose Sharks Organization and the San Jose Sharks Alumni Association hold a charity hockey tournament. The tournament is a way for the San Jose Sharks Organization and Alumni Association to honor our profession and give back to the community. The tournament participants are made up of professional Firefighters and Law Enforcement Officers only. What is unique about this tournament is that each team in the tournament has a former San Jose Shark play on the team or coach for every game of the tournament. The first 2 days of the tournament are held at Sharks Ice in San Jose and the final day of games is held at HP Pavilion before a San Jose Sharks Game.

Teams that enter the tournament have the opportunity to sponsor a local charity of their choice and earn money for them from the following means:

1. Entry fee- The tournament costs $2,700 per team and $1,000 of that          goes directly to that team’s charity.
2. Raffle- On the Friday evening of the tournament, the Alumni Association holds a party in our honor. Participants get to mingle with the San Jose Sharks Coaching Staff, Alumni, Broadcasters and other hockey fans. The Sharks Organization and Alumni donate a variety of Sharks memorabilia which is raffled off during this party. Teams earn money for their charity by selling the raffle tickets.
3. Silent Auction- Along with the raffle, some of the more demanding items hat the San Jose Sharks Organization and Alumni donate are silently auctioned  Proceeds from this auction are divided up evenly to all of the charities.
4. Donations- Any money donated to a team’s sponsored charity goes to that charity.
5. Champion Team- The winner of the tournament has an additional $500.00 donated to their charity on behalf of Sharks Ice

This year, the San Jose Sharks Alumni Cup will be held on January 29, 30 and 31. Menlo Park Firefighter Association has sponsored an association member on the Sac Fire Hockey Club team for this year’s tournament. The Sac Fire Hockey Club will be donating their earnings on behalf of the Sac Fire Hockey Club and Menlo Park Fire Fighters Association to the ALISA ANN RUCH BURN FOUNDATION.
